Riding the 'Buldak' Wave to Korea: MCST & Samyang Foods Partner to

Boost Inbound Tourism

Riding the 'Buldak' Wave to Korea: MCST & Samyang Foods Partner to

Boost Inbound Tourism

  • Signing of MOU on July 31 to expand international promotional reach for Korean tourism

  • Building a daily-life-integrated tourism marketing model by pairing government tourism assets with private sector global reach

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (Minister Choe Hwi-young, hereinafter MCST) and Samyang Foods (Chairwoman Kim Jung-soo) will sign a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Friday afternoon, July 31, at the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, to expand international visitor arrivals and bolster global promotions for Korean tourism.

Connecting K-Food Popularity Directly to Travel Demand: Buldak as a Bridge to Inbound Tourism

This partnership aims to channel the immense global craze for 'K-Food' directly into actual travel demand to South Korea. By combining Samyang Foods' formidable global marketing network and brand equity with the government’s rich tourism content, both organizations will construct a daily-life-integrated promotion model targeting consumers worldwide.

The agreement holds special significance as it leverages Samyang Foods' globally renowned "Buldak Spicy Chicken Ramen." With its signature spicy flavor, Buldak has engraved a passionate and adventurous image of Korea in the minds of global consumers, elevating the national brand prestige. MCST and Samyang Foods will build a solid 'bridge' that translates the daily experience of enjoying Korean flavors into real-world visits to Korea, turning K-Food enthusiasm into a primary driver of inbound tourism.

Joint On-and-Offline Promotions Leveraging Overseas Retail Distribution Networks

MCST and Samyang Foods will execute extensive multi-channel promotions combining "Korea Tourism Media & Travel Information" with "Samyang Products & Media Content." This ensures that global consumers naturally discover the charm of traveling to Korea while purchasing Samyang products at supermarkets or online retail platforms.

  • QR Code Consumer Campaigns: Incorporating QR codes on Buldak ramen and sauce packages to run interactive global events highlighting both Korean travel experiences and key product features.

  • '2026 Love Korea' Festival (Bangkok): At the "2026 Korea Culture & Tourism Festival (Love Korea, Aug 21–23)" in Bangkok, Thailand, Samyang Foods will host tasting zones alongside traditional and modern K-culture activity spaces.

  • Joint Digital Marketing: Cross-linking the official digital channels of both organizations to continuously deliver diverse Korea tourism content to global audiences.

Public-Private Partnership to Position Korea as an "Irreplaceable Destination"

Minister Choe Hwi-young stated, "We plan to harness the powerful impact of K-Food in global markets as a strategic engine for attracting international tourists. We expect the synergy between the government's rich tourism assets and private-sector marketing capabilities to elevate our national brand, transforming South Korea into an 'irreplaceable destination' for travelers around the world."
